Adobe has announced the date for its expected price increase in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the first in these territories since the service was introduced in 2012. New prices will vary by plan, but 3 examples are cited on Adobe’s FAQ. From 16 April 2018, individual Single App plans will increase by $1 from $19.99 per month to $20.99. The individual All Apps plans increases by $3 from $49.99 per month to $52.99 per month. Finally, the teams All Apps plans increase by $10 from $69.99 per month to $79.99 per month. You can read the FAQ about the changes on Adobe’s help website.
This is completely justified with it’s continuous evolution and applied research of the software… or not?
You think blender would be a viable option?
Affinity Photo can be nice replacement of Photoshop. Permanent license for $49.
Affinity has been great and it has had many great updates for free. version 2 will be upgrade and it will cost but its still very affordable with its price and few years free updates even one year with free updates is very affordable with its privce. Affinity has also so fresh and new code core architect so it has been faster than PS in many areas. Also some real innovating things inside Affinity…
Adobe will keep going this way until users has no more money to pay increased subscriptions – then adobes profit will stop increasing and then stockholders wont be happy unless adobe separate their softwares – then users must select which software they will need. Same subscription price but all softwares separately (if you need PS, AI, PR, AE, AU then price will be 5x the pain threshold price) that will be most likely the future of adobe and their pricing innovations to keep stockholders happy. And their tech. innovations will be: buy some small companies and integrate their tech inside software portfolio. Future will be balancing the customers and stockholders happinnes and because adobe is just company which try to make bigger and bigger profits for its owners and which is owned by stockholders mostly its obviously the stockholders happiness which is more important. Just like Autodesk… most likely prices will get higher and higher and software collections will be separated and must be subscribe separately.
But theres still hope in future because of affinity, blackmagic design, maxon, sidefx, newtek, foundry, even the blender is getting more attractive every update and its finally very stable, and krita, many alternatives which are making incredible development unlike adobe and autodesk. And at least autodesk has noticed this, mudbox get love after long wait, and also 3ds max… but it took a long time and i think its too late already for most users. 3d coat has get many great free updates long time and do i even need to remind from zbrush – how long they will release those great free updates and keep their customers happy? thats insane. these are companies which make their users love them and keep their customers loyal for long time. Adobes only strength is their software portfolio in industry standard which make them seamless workflow but their innovations are lacking and software core code is getting old, the legacy code… (and their other “strength” is easy pricing until their prices get too high for most users because they need keep their stockholders happy). But this is just my way see the future how it will go… but i am happy for davinci resolve, hitfilm, black magic designs fusion and affinity photo and blender, and for my old c4d, modo and houdini licenses, great softwares, no need for subscription.
They had a survey sent out to subscribers a month or so ago about how much we were willing to pay for different services, application packages (similar to how they used to do the CS Suites), and additional software not included currently in CC. Anyone who did the survey knew this was coming.
Davinci Resolve >= Prelude + Premiere Pro + SpeedGrade + Audition + Media Encoder
lmao nice one
You’ve received some answers already, Blender can replace some functionality, but no, the alternative here is not Blender, Affinity, Davinci and others are better suited to replace adobe, I miss a InDesign replacement, but Affinity is working on it 🙂
maybe i read this wrong but i think this was a sarcastic comment towards your blender zealotry which does make you sound ridiculous and tiring. and i generally agree with your sentiments but you might take it down a notch or fifty.
No, you are right, is sarcastic, on the other hand, while I understand you, I have to maintain somewhat this level of critique so things are heard.
The best Autodesk followers and defenders can do is to ignore me and not answer, but in the end they feel somwhat wrong, some of them, just some of them, are too afraid to make the change, not to Blender, but to any other package, C4D, Modo or whatever, I recommend Blender, but is not the only player on the ground, and they feel the need to defend their choice, but they usually skip the reasoning behind the problems and caveats with the new licensing, and they just plainly say “it´s not a problem”… well it is a problem, and I already had a friend that suffered from his choice, he had to finish a project here because some clients left him in the dust and delayed their payments and he had to choice between paying RSI and his life expenses or the Autodesk licenses, so I had to help him working with my licenses in my studio to finish a job.
Autodesk licensing model is against any logic, and there has to be some noise on the ground so people hear it, otherwise this would be widely accepted by a lot of people that diregards dangers that come with this licensing scheme, I don´t care about Autodesk well being, in fact I care about them as much as they care about me, but I surely care about collegues well being, friends, known people or even unknown people, and I will be raising my voice always, even it I´m a bit annoying, until things change or until I decide to stop because I think there is no point in continuing it.
The luckky thing for people is that it´s not a “hearable” voice, but a written one, so ignoring me is easy, as soon as anyone see my name, can avoid reading me, specially with my long boring texts, the curious thing is how people seem to insist in not ignoring me at all and keep defending Autodesk or it´s benefits, or just justifying themeselves.
Cheers!
I actually think you are doing a big disservice to new and old users, ex-users, or yet-to-be users (not that I think they will or won’t invest based on a guy who yells a bit too loud on the internet). Your constant patronizing and semi-trolling is like asking for getting either ignored by everyone or simply getting banned at some point, both won’t be very helpful in getting your point across.
If you really want to be heard, stop waving your point of view, experience and insight as ‘the leading way’ in every post like a religious fanatic and just be a decent person online – pretty please – that’ll do, thank you very much.
SO… because someone thinks I´m uncomfortable I should be banned?
I reclaim my freedom of speech and I don´t disrespect anyone, I´m as free as anyone to comment my thoughts about anything I want, and not beucause of that I should be banned from anywhere.
On the other hand, I´m not patronizing at all, maybe I understand that word differently, but I always speak about what we do, what is my experience and why I see things in a way, other thing may be that someone feels patronized, but this is not my problem, I don´t tell anyone what they should do, but if the ask I give my advice, or if I think there is a better solution, I also give my advice.
I always repeat to people that don´t like my comments that they can ignore me, everyone is free to avoid reading me completely, I don´t comment for people that don´t want to read my comments.
Finally, you may think I´m doing a disservice, I think the other way around, but not because I say so, but because people told me, people realized about some details they understood wrong about the new licensing model, do you know that a lot of people still has not realized that if they stop paying they will loose access to the software COMPLETELY? Some people still thinks that they keep the last version they used, some people thinks that they can use Max 2010 just because they pay the subscription, and a lot of things, is not because they are lazy or dumb, it is because marketing has not been clear about a lot of things that they don´t want to “advertise”, and specially if you talk to someone at Autodesk or some resellers (not ALL the resellers), they´ll try to sell you the subscription as the seventh wonder of the world, but the don´t lie, they simply are not clear with some details or give you some doubts and try to implant fear on you, like saying things like “you will be forced to pay hidden things if you use other packages”, or “you won´t have proper support, there is no security in using that”, when was the last time Autodesk fized a bug for you from one day to the other?.
You may be very well informed, and that is cool, but some people is more worried about other things than licensing, and I had to clarify a lot of things to a lot of people that asked me.
On the other hand, a lot of people still thinks that there is no world outside of Autodesk software, like if you can only create 3d quality content with Autodesk, wiht Maya animation, with Max arch/viz, with Arnold any render, if you don´t use that… you cannot work, and that is a big lie, and while there are different alternatives, I find pretty cool that there is completely free alternative that can cover ANYTHING that is done by any small and medium studio at the same level of Max/Maya or even better, and of course it is a perfect tool for any big studio since they have the source code at their will without having to pay ANYTHING to ANYONE so…
I´m sorry, anyone can think whatever they want, I won´t hush, like it or not, but as I already stated, I´ll do small comments, not big ones like this, but if someone answer and wants to talk, I´ll always answer in good will 🙂
Cheers!
It’s hard to complain about Adobe since there is some improvements and their increase of price doesn’t compare to the craziness of Autodesk.
Yep. In the newest release they`ve added boolean operations for splines, procedural wood map nad some VR bullshit. Lets see how this will influence subscription fees.
i hate to sub but combined wih ipad pro the creative cloud is pretty dope.
however this reminds me of lobsters and boiling water for some reason…
If you look around, After Effects is still the defacto standard for 2D animation (the typical flat “vectorial” stuff you see for product presentation videos).
I would absolutely love an alternative, but I gave up searching.
You are totally right… HitFilm is trying to fill that gap I think, and with Fusion you can do the same as with after effects, the caveat is that you don´t get as much stock material as with AE.
Cheers.
