Film Engine builds on prototype research done by Crytek, extending the game development technology into a real-time movie production software. It is designed to reduce the time and resources necessary to create visual effects and CG animation films.
Using the software a director can move things around and change the cut or change the animation of the digital characters, the lighting, and the camera, simultaneously and in real-time. The software will support VR production: a director will be able to wear a headset and walk around a virtual production stage, film digital characters, etc.
Film Engine is currently in beta and is expected to be released in the next few months. More on Film Engine’s website.
