Autodesk announced that it has acquired the Swedish game engine development company Bitsquid. According to the press release, the acquisition will enable Autodesk to enhance its portfolio of tools for game makers through the development of a new 3D game engine. The engine is also expected to be incorporated into software outside of the games industry, including architecture, manufacturing, construction, and film. They just threw in “architecture” and other uses so Max users won’t have a pissy-fit. I think this will be connected to Maya LT and AD will call it a day.

It’s obviously to help out their not so hot selling Maya LT. They just dropped the price from 50 a month to 30 a month… AD is years behind on the concept of “make your own game” They think people actually will need their implementation of bitsquid into Maya LT? Their yearly release model will surely set them back further in the dust against Unity and Unreal Engine. The thing about Unreal and Unity is that they actually want their customers to make great games, AD just wants more money half implemented junk.Of course they’ll ask for a cut for publishing your awesome game. I’m probably wrong but felt like venting…
