Very good news.
They gave us Houdini engine with the mantra tokens that come with it and now third party rendering! I love SideFX!
I just cannot express how glad I am that I started the transition from Max a while back
These guys actually act like they’re competing to be the best.
Amazing news! Finally the GPU based rendering unshackles the indies! Thank you SESI!
Now if only those expensive renders will get freelancers/indie versions…
I think redshift3d´s 500$ for a permanent license is a great deal, and you can have up to 8 gpu´s on one machine with that license. Plus you can use it on any software, as all the plugins are included.
Very cool!
I hoped one could also now develop render plugins for it with the indie version.
I’d like to write a renderer for Houdini ( http://luxrender.net ), since I’ve been working for so long on the 3dsmax version – I now wanted to also write it for Houdini.
All the work I do is for free, but I would not mind paying 200usd for a indie version of Houdini – if I could then develop for it as well.
But a full license is out of the question – at least for the plugin work I do.
It looks like as long as a renderer has the same restrictions as they have on Mantra for Indie they are ok with it. Why don’t you write to them and ask what you can do to make it available while having their blessing.
Yeah, I’ve sent a email today about it.
Would be nice if it was possible.
We’ll contact Side Effects to help make sure your message is read by the right people. Maybe they’ll give you a full license so you can develop the plugin properly. It’s in their best interest.
Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
You’re very welcome! A pleasure to help.
We received confirmation that it was read by the appropriate people at Side Effects. You should receive a reply soon.
Awesome news, been holding of getting Houdini Indie because of this. been playing around with Houdini Apprentice since 2011 and loved the software since then.
I’m so glad to have moved to Houdini, the only thing I was going to miss was Vray, not anymore. It feels great to be on an app that has a future, particularly after seeing what dismal update my 3ds max friends were offered This year.
