Featuring a computing interaction concept by design collective NAU, this spec teaser takes place in an entirely CG-recreated setting inspired by the penultimate scene from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Starring that film’s lead actor, Keir Dullea (who plays astronaut Dave Bowman), the teaser was developed over a two year period.
Live action was filmed multi-camera, against greenscreen atop a backlit plexi floor on a shoestring budget. The Immersive Cocoon itself is not a commercial product, it’s a concept study. The teaser was conceived by Tino Schaedler and directed by Oliver Zeller (who also did most of the CG work). Modeling was done in Modo, animation and rendering in Max with V-Ray, and compositing in After Effects and Nuke. Watch the teaser and making of on Vimeo.
