I’m so happy to see LightWave getting back at it’s feet. It’s the only software developer that is privately funded, which probably means … NO RENTALS! Or so I hope.
>only software developer that is privately funded
Houdini?
Forget about Houdini … you are right!
yes indeed. I am still using in the production. I have paied now, 2-3 years later 350 EUR for the update. This is totally appropriate, you get a very nice 3d Software for each purpose.
lovin it, this is the best blog post so far, good to see a videos showing you how it’s workin on a laptop (4 core) they are completely replacing the renderer in lightwave…the next version dumps the old one completely, no legacy enderer just ALL NEW..so lightwave 2015 will be your legacy based app for old scenes, of course they are trying to make it as painless as possible to load old scenes into the enxt version but there will some issues i guess so 2015 is the fall back version and why they are offering such a good deal upgrading right now.
My major problem with LW was always the separate workflow. Can’t wait to see how this new version will play out.
Knowing Rob (from the internet of course), I’m confident it’ll come with OpenVDB and Opensubdiv.
so epic, autodesk killing xsi max mudbox and others and at the same time LW getting back.
I never use LW, but happy for industry. Good chance now.
I never liked Lightwave, NEVER, but as many of you said, it’s great to see it back on it’s knees, I still think it needs a complete UI revamp, it still has to re-think it’s workflows and adapt to a more visual paradigm, that has always been my problem with LW, too old paradigm and workflows.
Anyways, I agree, good news for the industry, no rental! (Let’s hope so)
Cheers!
tbh I dont mind a rental “option” as long as the perpetual licenses are still available.
I cant wait to see what’s next with LW2016.. Great sneak peek.
Agree with that, I should have specified RENTAL-ONLY 🙂
Besides brand new PBR Rendering and Volumetrics 2016 will also have fast a new unified geometry engine with the ability to create and modify geometry in Layout. UI enhancement on in progress. LW’s VPR is very powerful and will get even better. And important to note the LW 2015 already offers lots of cool features like flocking, bullet simulation, unlimited network rendering etc. with one license etc and is very stable. Plugins like DPont, LWBrush, MetaMesh, Advanced Placement, LWCAD5 and lots more are very cool extensions. The upgrade price to 2016 for $295 is a steal.
Its good to see LightWave at least attempting to address its longstanding architectural limitations. We’ll see hopefully sooner then later if they’ve been successful in doing so. Looks good so far.
