MDL SDK now open source
NVIDIA has announced that the MDL, short for Material Definition Language, SDK is now open source.
MDL enables artists to create materials in a format that can be used in any application that supports the MDL standard and obtain predictable results. The new open-source MDL SDK enables developers to expand and adapt MDL to their specific needs. For example, they are able to add functionality, add support to new platforms, port it to iPad or Android, create new backends, and more.
Current applications that support MDL include the Allegorithmic suite, Adobe’s Dimension CC, Unreal 4.20 and V-Ray plus many more.
