Autodesk has announced the release of Mudbox 2023 with a new Linux installers. Find out more in the release notes.
This tool is so perfect that doesn’t need any updates or new features. Please keep paying your subscription, nothing to see here.
Maximising profit to the limit
When the only feature is a new installer, you know it’s on life support.. So sad, Mudbox had soo much potential! Wish Weta had kept it.
well is cheap, and still second after zbrush in sculpting. Autodesk should put money in it,great potential in that software.
Out of curiosity. What makes you put it second nowadays instead of 3D Coat or even Blender ?
Smooth Painting with very high res meshes and textures is one. Ease of use out of the box is another, in terms of features its long gone sadly.
the release notes are installation instructions and the system requirements. sigh. this is just getting tragic at this point.
Mudbox 2018.1.0001 released
With this rate of hard-working improvements with every new update, I think they will start removing features instead of adding them in the next year.
The positive side is that it is now full compatible with 3ds max 2023. Good alternative for Zbrush and good to experiment for students. Zbrush has no free student versions.
Oh and I’ll add.. The lack of Mudbox sales has nothing to do with the app’s competency and 100% to do with the lack of promoting \pushing the app \ adding new features.. Two of my favorite apps left to rot at Autodesk, Mudbox, Softimage.
I really really liked MB for its straight forward approach. I had some issues with it but it did what I wanted. Eventually, I didn’t renew after seeing how little interest there is from Autotheft.
You really have to wonder what a company like that is doing (or not…) with their money and resources.
Exactly, what they did with Mudbox and XSI is a crime. With Max partially too, neglected it for years.
They should just open source it, give it to the community, or find a buyer ( Epic Games? )
