Onshape CAD beta available

Built by former developers of SolidWorks, Onshape is a browser-based 3D CAD system. After some months of pre-production testing, the company is making it available to the public at large. Features of the software include:
The software is currently in beta and is being offered through a rental licensing model at $100 per month (a free plan is also available). Read the FAQ and find out more on Onshape’s website.
- Parametrics and direct editing, assemblies, and (soon) drawings
- Version control and collaboration, enabling users to work together with no copying or locking
- Cloud/web/mobile architecture
- The ability to run in a web browser on all computers (Windows, Mac, Linux; Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
- Full 3D CAD functionality on mobile (Iphone, Ipad and soon, Android)

100$/month?
I don’t understand what do that people think… if we sum up everything we are supposed to rent we will end paying more for the tools than for our house… unbelievable…

Yeah, it’s like each company is completely in their own world and not understanding the combined negative impact this subscription system will have, especially for freelancers, indie filmmakers and the like.
Even for bigger companies, do you think a company with 50 employees can live with a montly spend of hundreds of thousands of dollars/euros?
It’s a nonsense, there should be different options as always, rent or acquire, companies don’t always have cashflow, and this is a reality that software manufacturers like this are completely ignoring, they live in their happy world where eveyrone has projects every month, and big incomes every month and the sky is pink… they are insane IMO
