July 24th 2002. Munich, Germany — IRIDAS Digital Interaction Design, a leading provider of software based digital playback solutions for the film and broadcasting industry, today announced it’s Education Initiative aimed at supporting institutions in the field of film, broadcasting and animation education through the inexpensive licensing of IRIDAS’ award-winning products.
Also IRIDAS plans to sponsor contests and discussion groups to work closely with students and teachers during the development of new innovative products.
Says Lin Sebastian Kayser, president of Munich, Germany-based IRIDAS Digital Interaction Design: “During an economic downturn, it is usually the educational facilities that suffer first, especially in the Arts. In the current climate, it is increasingly difficult for art schools and universities to get funding for new, cutting-edge technology. While technology is arguably not the most important factor in education, we feel we can make a small contribution here.”
To start off the Education Initiative, IRIDAS today announced the immediate availability of Academic Site Licenses for its FrameCycler range of uncompressed digital playback products. Academic organisations like art schools and universities are eliglible for a 90% discount on Universal Site Licenses for all IRIDAS products. This includes the currently released FrameCycler Standard product as well as the upcoming FrameCycler Professional product.
A Universal Academic License of FrameCycler Standard which runs on an arbitrary number of machines at one physical location will be available for $499.90 instead of the regular $4999 retail price for a regular Universal Site License. The FrameCycler Professional product which is due on August 15th will be available for $899.90 (regular Universal License price is $8999).
Single node locked licenses of the upcoming FrameCycler DDS disk-based 2K playback solution will be available for $399.90 (regular price $3999)*.
“Review of moving pictures is one of the most important tasks during animated content creation.”, says Lin Sebastian Kayser, “Unfortunately many facilities still have to rely on homegrown tools for this task, as the software industry has neglected this area completely in the past.”
IRIDAS plans to work more closely together with educational facilities around the world to gather ideas and improve its product range.
