Terragen 4.8 adds new Sky Paint node support and improves rendering capabilities
Planetside Software has released Terragen 4.8, introducing support for Sky Paint nodes from Terragen Sky. This improvement enables users to import custom cloud configurations directly into Terragen for further refinement and rendering. Sky Paint nodes are now distinguishable by a unique purple color in Terragen’s Node Network.
The update also removes the previous limit of 64 rendering threads, allowing users with high-core-count systems to fully utilize their hardware. Thread usage can be managed in the Advanced tab of the Render node or adjusted via command-line options.
A new “Use sticky world space” feature for shaders has been added to improve texture stability on deforming objects, ensuring textures remain correctly aligned during object transformations.
Terragen 4.8 includes new export options for heightfields, now supporting 16-bit TIFF and RAW file formats compatible with Unity and Unreal Engine. The updated Heightfield Erode V3 operator introduces multi-threading for faster erosion calculations and an updated user interface for clearer parameter grouping.
The release further improves the speed of scene interactions with cloud layers, optimizes object regeneration for animated deformations, and adds a new command-line option to control render layers during batch rendering.
Bug fixes address interpolation issues with heightfields, enhance the XML file reader for handling custom elements, and update the Linux render node to resolve missing dependencies.
