Toolset News – Eyematic ships real-time markerless facial animation system

Eyematic Interfaces announced the availability of Eyematic FaceStation, a software/hardware system that streamlines facial animation and seamlessly integrates with animation packages. FaceStation allows film, television and interactive game animators to create and drive facial character animation in real-time.

Eyematic FaceStation currently ships with a high-end PC with a video capture card, a standard digital video camera in addition to Eyematic’s computer vision software. FaceStation works by recognizing facial features without the need for awkward facial markers and records an actor’s facial movements and voice, resulting in the immediate replication of the movement and sound in 3D-as well as quick and efficient production times. FaceStation also includes Eyematic FaceLifter, a tool that “lifts” facial tracking data from previous video recordings and significantly increases an animator’s source for content. It also allows the animator to make changes or updates as often as they choose without the tedious process of frame-by-frame modification and rendering the updated shot.

Eyematic FaceStation works with the Eyematic FaceDriver plug-in for 3ds max and Maya, and enables anyone with moderate experience in those 3D animation/modeling packages to create facial animation with life-like emotions for multiple platforms. Eyematic FaceStation also includes Eyematic Avatar Editor, a tool allowing animators to create custom avatars from a front and profile character image. Eyematic FaceStation is built upon Eyematic’s patented biometrics and computer vision software engines and represents more than 20 man-years of research and development by scientists and programmers in the field.
