Unity announce strategic partnership with PiXYZ to simplify working with CAD data
Unity Technologies has announced a strategic partnership with PiXYZ Software, the developers of a suite of tools to simplify the process of creating real-time experiences from CAD data.
There are currently 5 tools in PiXYZ’s portfolio. PiXYZ Plugin works directly in the Unity editor allowing users to import CAD models. It is able to control the scale, orientation, and tessellation of CAD model and repair them if necessary. It also includes UV, hierarchy and LODs tools plus the ability to directly import CAD data into a windows runtime, without needing to recompile a project.
For users that don’t want or need to build a Unity project, there’s Review and Review Premium. These tools allow users (including remote collaborators) to open a native CAD file and view it using several interactive tools like cut planes, assembly explosion, measurements and more. The Premium version adds the ability to view projects in VR and AR.
PiXYZ Studio and Studio Editor enable users to prepare models for real-time use from a standalone desktop application. They offer more controls than the plugins, including tools to simplify models, remove hidden geometry, fix flipped normals, and more. The Studio Editor edition allows for automation using Python.
Talking of automation, PiXYZ Pipeline has the same features as Studio’s tools but with the ability to run automated batch processes using users own servers or cloud-based data centres. Finally, PiXYZ Connect enables users to use and connect multiple Pipeline servers as a private web service within your company’s security perimeter.
You can read more about the announcement on Unity’s blog and find out more about the tools themselves on PiXYZ’s website.
