New features in the real-time virtual camera software that lets artists use a mobile device as a physical camera for a 3D application’s viewport include:
- Deeper camera controls such as reverting camera status, creating a new camera and changing sequentially between cameras
- Slider presets
- Custom Python scripts
- Custom DCC attributes
- Joystick and PTZ camera control with on-screen or Bluetooth controllers
- Hitchcock-style dolly zoom effect
The above features are available in the Pro version of VirtuCamera, which has been launched with the v2 release. The standard feature set includes camera motion capture, playback control, active camera switching, focal length recording, movement scaling, translation locks, real-time steady-cam smoothing and operation at up to 60 FPS depending on the production setup.
VirtuCamera 2 is designed for previs, layout, animation blocking, cinematic shot development and virtual production workflows across modern CG pipelines. The Pro release expands the standard workflow with advanced tools built for filmmakers, cinematographers, layout artists and teams that need more than basic camera capture.
The software is being developed by Madrid-based The Weird Byte. It supports Blender 5.2 LTS, 5.1, 5.0 and 4.5 LTS, 3ds Max 2027 and 2026, Maya 2027 and 2026, Houdini 22, 21 and 20.5 (QT6), Cinema 4D 2026 and Nuke 17 and 16. (Maya 2023/2024 for Pro Business coming soon.)
