NVidia is to EOL Mental Ray. In a newsletter announcing the decision they say that from November 20th 2017 “NVIDIA will no longer offer new subscriptions to the Mental Ray plugins for Maya and 3ds Max, as well as Mental Ray standalone. Current customers who have purchased licenses from NVIDIA will continue to receive support through our Advanced Rendering Forum for the remainder of their subscription terms.” (more...)

MoI v4 beta now available

Michael Gibson has released a beta version of MoI v4 for existing license holders. The core engine has received a major overhaul to upgrade it to 64bit and on Mac the application is now fully native, no longer using Wineskin. New features are also expected during the beta process and, we'll update this post as they become available. Find out more on the MoI3d forum.

Unfold3D V10 released with 2 versions and a new licensing model

Version 10 of Unfold3D has been released by a new company named Rizom-Lab, set up by the original creator to publish all future and current version of the popular suite of tools for UV mapping.

Version 10 marks some big changes in the way the software is licensed and distributed. Gone are dongles and in their place we get node-locked licenses, good for two computers, available under a rent-to-own scheme. Licensing is now income dependent. Indie licenses are available for users who earn less than 100 000€/y, and pro licenses are required for those who exceed this threshold.

Blender Conference 2017 live streams now available

Two live streams are now available from the Blender Conference 2017 held in Amsterdam from the 27 to 29 October, enabling you to see talks as they happen from the Theater and the Salon stage. Presentations will be available on the Blender YouTube channel following the event.
