FLIP Fluids Beta

Ryan Guy and Dennis have released a new fluids simulation tool for Blender. Flip Fluids has been in development for several years and creators are now looking for users to beta test the software. As you would hope for a high performance simulation tool, the engine is written in C++, is multithreaded and GPU accelerated. It includes the ability to simulate whitewater effects to create foam, bubbles and spray and also comes with a viscosity solver. A built-in mesh generator is used for rendering that promises to be memory-efficient. Houdini

Houdini Indie now allows rendering up to 4k plus installation on a 2nd computer

SideFX has released a new build of Houdini that allows Indie license owners to render image sequences of up to 4K (previously the limit was 1080p). The revised licensing terms also enable Indie users to install Houdini on a second computer or laptop, provided they are not used simultaneously. In addition to the license update, a new UV Flatten node is added as well as improvements to the import and export of FBX files. (more...)

VECmap tools released

Clovis Gay has released a new tool for 3DS Max that allows users to paint a vector map directly onto a mesh. There are several options for using the maps to drive particles, deform UVs and meshes, and control the initial and bend direction of V-Ray fur, but many other uses are certainly possible.
