I doubt that this is of any worth. Multiple Choice always reflects more of the opinions of the questioner than those of the customer. If Autodesk would simply listen to their customers, this would be a big step forward. And you should never lie, like you did with Max and Max Design.
We and our customerbase don’t need “Design” at all. But Autodesk does not listen and til now made clear that our opinion and the opinion of our cutomers is worth a shit.

So why at all should a customer fill out this thing?

Like any corporation there isn’t one Autodesk, but many Autodesks inside the company. Policies are not set by a single entity. The lack of common sense in certain policies does not detract others from working. I disagree with some of Autodesk licensing policies, but I do believe from features we’ve seen added in the latest releases (Slate, poly tools, et al) that they are indeed listening to customers regarding development. My $0.02, of course.

I don’t think so. The whole “Design” thing was the process of combining VIZ and MAX development. Max and VIZ shared the same root, but since they are two different binaries. There were a lot of waste, and “Design” got rid of the waste.

“Design” was an marketing scheme to provide smooth transition to Max for Viz userbase. Since Autodesk have a good understanding how “Corp” works, that marketking scheme worked very well, and eventually it has been beneficial for 3ds max users.

Combining Viz and Max development was a good idea. How happy we were to get rid of Viz! But bringing a Viz user to Max was indeed very easy so there was no need for a new version at all. All customer surveys proof that markets are heavily converging. So users from totally different fields like gamers, visualization companies, filmproductions need nearly the same set of features.

We would be very happy to get rid of that two flavours as well as the localized versions. They could easily replaced by localized manuals and tutorials for an english version. So max users from all around the globe would have the opportunity to talk about the very same piece of software and could help each other much better.
