Gimp 3.0 released
GIMP has released version 3.0 of its open-source image editing software. This update marks the culmination of seven years of development, bringing new features and improvements to the application. The previous major version, GIMP 2.10, was released in 2018, with development on GIMP 3.0 beginning in 2020.
One of the key additions in GIMP 3.0 is non-destructive editing for frequently used filters, allowing users to tweak applied effects at any time. A real-time, on-canvas preview feature has also been introduced. The update expands file format support, including improved PSD export and compatibility with BC7 DDS files. Additionally, users can now set paint tools to automatically expand layers as needed.
Text editing has been refined, enabling users to apply outlines, shadows, and bevels while retaining the ability to modify fonts and styles. Layer organization has been enhanced with multi-selection functionality, allowing users to move or transform multiple items at once. The update also improves color management, aligning with GIMP’s goal of becoming a more advanced image editing tool.
