A new version of Appleseed, the open-source renderer aimed at animation and VFX, is out now. Version 2.1 includes support for Cryptomatte AOVs, render checkpointing for resuming mult-pass renders, support for OSL shaders, a fisheye camera, the ability to control samples using a black and white mask, filter importance sampling, and more. Appleseed plugins are available for Blender, 3DS Max and Maya. For more information and to download visit GitHub, to find out more about the project you can visit the Appleseed website.
Strange as it might seem there’s no info about release 2.1 at their official website. At least their latest news takes it back to November 4, 2018.
One of the appleseed devs here. We have not yet officially released appleseed 2.1
That is why you won’t find it announced on our webpage. We have updated the release notes on GitHub for version 2.1 showing the new features and some CG news sites reported this mistakenly as officially released.
The official release though is imminent and will come within the next days.
The Linux binaries are currently still missing on GitHub.
