Solid Angle has announced that Arnold is now free for educational institutions who can apply for licenses by visiting the Autodesk Education Portal. Students have access to Arnold in their free educational licenses of Max and Maya, but can also apply for licenses via their institution for Arnold versions that support Cinema 4D, Houdini and Katana. Also announced are Arnold packs which bundle 5 annual subscriptions for half the price. Read the announcement on Solid Angle’s website.

No desired to use a render engine that Autodesk owns, they must think I’m stupid to corner myself even more. The last thing I want to do is rely more on their products and crappy customer scheming.

Yep, I’ve got a lot invested in Max, knowledge and plugins – but considering my view of how Autodesk have acted over the past years both in the products they’ve killed and those that they still ‘support’, I would be foolish to put faith in them for something like a render engine.
I’m very happy with Redshift and Vray.
