Autodesk announces Project Bernini – a new generative AI for creating 3D models
Autodesk has announced the release of Project Bernini, a new generative AI designed to create 3D objects. This experimental model can produce functional 3D objects from 2D images, text descriptions, and point clouds. The goal is to generate practical and structurally sound shapes suitable for professional applications in various industries, including architecture, entertainment, and manufacturing.
According to Autodesk, the model was trained on a composite dataset of ten million publicly available 3D objects comprising a mixture of CAD objects and organic shapes. In future Autodesk has said they aims to use larger datasets to improve accuracy, though the source of these data sets is not disclosed.

This has to be a joke, the only thing in the entire video that looks like it should be is this damn juice jar… the rest look like objects that came out of a shredder or an acid bath…
That was my initial reaction as well. But there are two things to consider.
1) In the video it was already eluded to that the high-poly AI generated mesh is clearly meant for a slid round of Retopo before being useful.
2) The pace of AI development will probably surprise us, as has been the case so far. Most likely in it will improve rapidly and pretty soon will put most modelers to shame.
I never doubted the future of A.I. nor their power… I just doubt the future of this humble delayed Autodesk project. Because there are already hundreds of similar tools that have been producing much more detailed objects for several months.
A good opportunity for Autodesk to go shopping 🙂
I am going to make so many big jugs!
Autodesk, always here to push the boundaries of evil.
Yesterday, the rotten softwares, tomorrow, the rotten AI strategy.
Meanwhile 3ds max and maya continues to get slower and buggier every year with a couple of bs new features added yearly to justify their subscription model. Hey, Autodesk why don’t you devote your resources to improving the softwares that your customers actually pays for instead of diverting those resources to hop on the AI bandwagon.
The only hope left is that AD use A.I. to fix the software…although by that time other companies will probably have already made some super 3D AI generator.
Thank you Autodesk for taking the next step in killing our careers. Knew we could count on you.
