Autodesk announces Entertainment Creation Suite 2014, ReCap Studio and Photo

Autodesk has issued a press release with a summary of the new features in each of the applications that conform the various flavors of the Entertainment Creation Suite: 3DS Max, Maya, Softimage, MotionBuilder, Mudbox and Sketchbook Designer. There is no mention of Naiad or Composite. Read the press release.

Autodesk has also announced ReCap, a family of software and services on the desktop and in the cloud designed to create intelligent 3D data from captured photos and laser scans. ReCap is comprised of two main tools, ReCap Studio and ReCap Photo.

ReCap Studio allows to clean, organize and visualize massive datasets captured from reality. ReCap Photo, like 123D Catch, seems to be a derivative of Photofly, the application previously developed by Autodesk for creating 3D models from photographs. It’s designed to help create high-resolution textured 3D models from photos using cloud computing.

ReCap Studio is available for download and ReCap Photo is expected to be released on April 12th. According to The Next Web, ReCap Photo will be available as a free preview for this quarter and will later require an Autodesk Subscription.

More information on ReCap and a video preview of ReCap Photo can be found on Autodesk’s Recap page.

So, what’s the situation with 3ds Max? Same as 2013 for the extension as Particle Flow Data operators? Or are these already available in 3ds Max 2014?

Max 2014 has Box #2 and #3 (or equivalents)

Thanks Steve,

Although the new additions are very little and max2013 was an INSULT to the user base i think the addition of box#2 and #3 is a great move! They are both far better then their reputation! Especially box#3.

Yeah addition of Box 2 and Box 3 was a real great move. This has made 3DS Max a power pack booster for Visual Effects. And plus sweetness was the crowd stuff they mentioned. Have to look for it if it supports massive I/O data with 3DS Max

Well i think, not all test and operators got attested in PFlow from Box 2 and Box 3…Well i am glad enough that some new moves has been done….
Autodesk has revealed new changes in 3DS Max FX system listed below….

The new Advanced Data Manipulation toolset enables artists to create customized Particle Flow tools from different combinations of up to 25 different suboperators. With the new mParticles module for the MassFX simulation system, artists can simulate natural and man-made forces, create and break bonds between particles, and collide particles with each other and with other objects. The new Cache Disk operator offers the ability to precalculate and store Particle Flow simulations as separate files on disk, while the Cache Selective operator enables artists to cache only certain types of data – both helping to facilitate faster iterations. And finally, a set of Particle Flow ‘Freebies’ from Orbaz Technologies: Camera Culling Operator, Camera IMBlur Operator, Copy Out Test, Display Script Operator, Stop Operator, and Stop Gradually Test is now included by default.
