In addition to perpetual licenses, Autodesk announced that starting September 16th it will be offering rental license plans that allow to use Autodesk software for a specified period of time (monthly, quarterly or annually), without the need for an up-front license investment or long-term commitment. I’m surprised at the cost of these bundles, they are so expensive. I know Autodesk’s software is quite different from Adobe’s, but you can get the entire Adobe suite for around $30 dollars a month, whereas AD wants $200 or more, for just one piece of software. Seems a bit steep if you ask me.

I think Softimage users must be confused right now. There’s no mention of it in the rental plans.

I think it’s expensive also. Could be 20%/30% more cheaper.

Might work for some, but to me this also seems a bit steep.

as someone said, if you run a big or small studio its not a bad deal. If you are a freelancer it is a big deal

I’d even say for a studio it’s expensive to purchase.

It’s very sad that no one can purchase XSI by itself.
I’m not sure what AD’s thinking is behind this plan.

Be glad you don’t live in New Zealand.

It’s $390 USD/month here.

Minimum term 3 months. Only available in 3 month blocks.

Oops, seems that is the price for the suite.

Max alone is $250USD per quarter

@Jokermartini: Adobe cloud costs 62$ per month annually or 92$ for monthly payment… 37$ is an introduction offer… and nobody says when they raise pricing, which will happen to keep the company growing.

Overall it is frightening to see that a lot of companies adopt rental payment without making it possible to turn your license in a permanent one…

I see some problems regarding rental business.
If you just need the main apps, everything is well.

1…
What if you need plugins like FumeFX, Rayfire, Blastcode, a.s.o. ?!
Would you pay full price for the plugins, that you can only use while you are on rental plan and then throw them away?

2…
These rental strategies for main apps would gain “hire & fire” mentality in the business rapidly.
Because no company would think anymore in long terms.
Need artist for one month?…Just rent him and a software for a month, then kick him back onto the street again.

And competing employees and freelancers would be forced to prostitute them selves more and more cheaper to get a job.

What a dark future!

Is there a possibility to rend an older version? Because I dont know any studio which is already on 2014.

Now that’s the problem now init, having a Shell for plugins instead of a complete package.

It depends on the plugin.

Copy protection varies – something like VRay and Phoenix is tied to the dongle, Thinkbox is tied to a MAC address, and could have a floating licence.

Other stuff is tied to the serial number of Max.

So yeah, it’s a bit of a mess.
