It’s really fascinating how close Autodesk follows Adobes plans. Adobe purchased design community Behance little less than a year ago, so Autodesk of course decides to have an art community as well. So if you want to guess what Autodesk does a year from now, just look at what Adobe does now 🙂

Next thing you know they’ll start a rent based business model! Oh wait…

No – next thing ( the Autodesk way ) is of course is firing more people to have more money to throw at dubios “social” business efforts…

Funny how the Autodesk building in that article looks like a cliché archviz render.

Would not be surprised if they started giving a copy of sketchbook to all the paid members, or maybe that would be a Deviantart SAP.

Aaaa – ok, ok, do not panic! Now we know where the money for DeviantArt comes from!

I don’t know how much Devian costs, but it will cost us at the end much more. 🙁

“The job cuts could impact Autodesk’s Media & Entertainment and Platform Solutions and Emerging Business segments”

So, Max will get very limited attention and prices will go up again.

Autodesk needs to concentrate on it’s core-market and stop farting money about on whims and social-cloud-networking bullshit.

what I don’t understand is why employees have to go when they are still making a profit.

It’s a shame that profit takes precedent over quality products.

If there are even less people in the department that works on Max, then I worry even further about Max’s future.

I just listened to the whole 3h30 recording of the Autodesk Investor Day, that happened yesterday ( ( http://investors.autodesk.com )
Here are some interesting things said:

– Autodesk will not provide product updates any longer from Feb.1st 2015. All has to be either full purchase, rental or subscription based then. Makes not much difference to the current situation IMHO, as upgrade costs are already insane and do not make sense anyways, but nevertheless i think this is an interesting bit of info …

— On Oct.2nd, Autodesk bought (most of ? ) Graitec … ( http://www.graitec.com )

– as i understood, the current, announced restructuring affects 90 people, mostly people in “going to market” efforts. I interpret this as in the current restructure, no people working on already established products like 3ds Max are affected. But of course i might be wrong

Besides the above, there was NOT ONE word or screenshot of any M&E product during the whole 3h30 session, that speaks a lot about Autodesk’s view on importance in that segment

Can you get RSI from facepalming?

They’re far too fond of wanting to look like they’re doing *something*, never mind that it’s cretinous.

Just to clear some confusion my post may cause, because i use the word “UPDATE”. I guess Autodesk will still release UPDATES in 2015, but according to the investor day talk, there will not be an option any longer to UPGRADE from an older product version at reduced cost from feb. 2015 on.

Just to prevent confusion 😉
