The Blender Foundation has announced the release of Blender 2.80. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years you’ll probably be aware by now of what this version includes, but here’s a quick list of some of the more salient points just in case. Blender 2.80 was a major overhaul, 3 years in the making, that includes a completely redesigned UI, a new workspace, a modern 3D viewport, EEVEE real-time rendering,  new tools and gizmos,  major enhancements to grease pencil, updates to Cycles and a whole lot more. Read about the release on the Blender website.

That’s funny how the competitors to Blender released “all surprisingly” theirs updates and new plans all together the same day as Blender 2.80 release ahah.

Anyway good job for this update, future is bright in the open source side 🙂

Strategy seems to be working. Again, more activity on Autodesk related news despite all the users claiming to have moved on to Blender.

That’s only cos people love trolling on Autodesk, so there would be more activity in their news for sure 🙂

True that, but there is little to add to praise and amazing work done by that team! After all the development has been open and it’s been reviewed, bugfixed for months now. Regardless of your application of choice Blender has enriched CG community and forced others to innovate. Nothing, but respect.

Blender has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past couple years. That Eevee thing really is a big deal.
