Blender’s new physics driven cloth brush

Feb 11, 2020 by CGPress Staff

Pablo Dobarro released an interesting looking new cloth simulator brush (in alpha) for his blender sculpting tools. It allows the user to intuitively sculpt cloth while a localised physics simulation creates realistic wrinkles, 4 deformation modes allow you to create a wide variety of effects. You can download an early build from the Blender Community pages, read more on the development blog, and see a couple of tutorials on YouTube (video 1 | video 2).

Pixologic goin:”Shiiiiit son why didn’t we think of that?”

Dev: Our UI is still the most retarded of any software, you think those who designed a UI like that can come up with something like this?

Me: Yes, You do come first place for most retarded UI but Blender is second, there is still hope.

😀 You nailed it. Anyway, i have never seen something like this before. Looks super cool and useful.

your use of the slur and the meth-smoking sentence structure is only revealing of your intellect tbh, nothing else.

zbrush is cool. blender is cool. 3d coat is cool. none are exclusive and can be used to compliment each other.

if you have troubles with the UI at this point no one to blame but yourself.
judging by your comment though i do understand you might struggle with basic things, i get that.

You seem to take things too personally, lets not speak of “intellects” based off of some internet scribbles. I’m sure in reality you would take back your words should we have met face to face and explored backgrounds.

Yes all cool, I simply don’t care, I felt like writing so I did.

I still feel and felt like mocking UI so be it I use Zbrush just fine and a dozen other main apps + writing custom tools for some of these apps on a daily basis. That doesn’t mean either Blender or Zbrush didn’t have their share of problems or are excluded from criticism.

The reason Blender was late getting picked up in popularity WAS because of the UI as a main factor! Same reason why lightwave suffered as well with their double modules.

It wasn’t until Blender started “fixing” and catering to the masses and altering UI elements with features recently that it started picking up again. It is a slow pickup because it was late to the party but i’m glad it is happening.

With that said many may claim you got b*tthurt being a fan boy or not. Don’t go there, not pretty.

…your operative word being WAS, hence my reply “at this point”.
my butt is alright though. its actually fantastic tbh

i just think your lame meme-format is trash and belongs somewhere else.
using retarded as a pejorative is what i do find more repugnant on a human level though.

but you do you though chief.

Cue Blender fanboys who think this replaces Marvelous Designer.

A bit of troll comment, aren’t you? This obviously doesn’t replace marvelous, as it’s a completely different function. Nobody said grease pencil replaces Photoshop or storyboard pro.
They are good complements though

He’s not really trolling if you consider the comments in the YouTube videos. The same guy keeps posting in all of the related videos “RIP marvelous designer”. Then there’s “Marvelous Designer is QUAKING.” Or “Lookin at marvelous like all I need is blender and zbrush now”. Then you have the ones thinking it replaces ZBrush as well.

kind of hard to wrap around oneself around these braindead comments tbh.
there is a guy posting clickbait yt videos, so fking what?

instead of creating and sewing patterns together one can intuitively model folds from a simple basemesh. with a free software.
it will definitely replace MD for some usecases, so what?

and yeah there are definitely poeple that will find sculpting in blender sufficient. again so fuking what? its all individual and relative.

the most idiotic thing is tribalistic need to put down other software and the user-base and it just shows how insecure you are, nothing else.

use the tool that gets the job done and grow the fck up.

Are you aiming your comments at me, or are you making blanket statements? mdko wasn’t wrong, Blender has a huge fanboy base with a quite a few who are really inexperienced in other software to even make the comments they do. They chime in on queue in each video. I could care less what software people use if they find it useful. And I did not put down Blender, did I? I wouldn’t have seen all those comments if I wasn’t interested in the feature and watched all of the new videos on it. I think this cloth brush would be handy. But I will point out when kids think sufficient = better than.

the comments was aimed at both of you.
cgpress is still a place that professionals frequent, not kids, not the masses. this is still a place one can actually have a discussion in and learn something.

shitposting and stirring by calling further(future) comments fanboyism instantly and automatically denigrates and discards any comment as blind, subjective and worthless. sole purpose of it is to be straight up insulting.

blender has no entry barrier. youtube is a mass medium and a well known trash heap. that combo ofcourse will be cancerous, but why you insist on comparing it to this platform is beyond me.

this is not an xbox vs ps4 discussion and the troll from the first comment is exactly in that vein. he is the one bringing yt toxicity into this comment section and you or anyone else doing or defending it can take it right back to youtube and gtfo.

i am not trying to be a sheriff here but if we are to keep this site any different from youtube, we need to self moderate a bit.

I’ve been part of this community for as long as it has been up, and visited daily long, long before the transition to cgpress.org. Long enough to see plenty of trolls from the Blender side swamp this site, destroy the ranking system, dilute the constructive comments with dribble. If you think I was fanning the flames, sorry. It was based on the experience I’ve had here with certain folks in that particular community. I’m not alone in seeing this. I was making no comparisons between YouTube and here, that stuff bleeds from there onto here. So I do expect you to tell them to GTFO next time they show up instead of directing it at someone who regularly participates in the conversations here.

you can start by referring to my reply to the first post from the troll-guest above.

btw not sure you are understanding me, the gtfo was conditional to toxicity, no need to take it personal.

fwiw, anyone reading this knows you are mostly referring to juang3d. he is the author of good 90% of blender posts, so much so, it has become a bit of a meme here. while his posts are not always the best argued, language being a barrier too, he is not a troll and seems to be well intentioned and infact quite well informed, especially on the blender side of things. being here as long as you, i havent seem much if any trolling tbh.

and yes i would and do clap back at nonsense from any side, but i am for example not inclined to defend autodesk in any scenario. you need to understand there is a difference in dishing out on a company and just preemptively calling all of its users fanboys in a discussion.
its honestly surprising that this difference seems to escape you.

i rag on autodesk every chance i get but i feel for those users, having been there. i know they will be fcked by adsk precisely because of their loyalty. example – as you know, multi user license is going up 30%, and i could go in the comment section and laugh at the folks but its actually an extremely worrying and sad development. people livelihoods are at stake. and that is just the beggining of the fuckery that awaits and all of you that placed your gonads in the hands of autodesk are in for a ride. no doubt maxon will follow suite.

why people are celebrating blender is because it is representing the freedom of 3d and digital art. it sounds melodramatic but it is really the truth. it is the only thing that stand between us and the predatory criminal greed that is cancer on this industry.

that is why people are enthusiastic about it, and imho all things considered one should forgive them for being overly zealous in the comments. side shots like the one above are cheap, undeserved, and pathetic and i feel dumb to have wasted paragraphs on it.

im done here.

Calling me a Troll is stretching it, you seem to be the preacher here. No one’s a kid around here. We all know Autodesk lurks in the background we don’t like it but switching software is not easy for many people, that is a fact, you need to test and use it in production one that involves low risks at first.

Lastly you seem to mistake criticism which I believe is extremely important to any software development with trolling and mocking. If we insert some “humor” from time to time doesn’t mean anything.

If you look back no one is critiquing Blender’s existence on the contrary we all hop it gets better.

Uh, I didn’t diss Blender, or said everyone should stick to one CC program. Thank you for proving my point, which was that a lot of Blender users are annoying. A real patriot is critical of his country.

I think Blender has made great strides in the last few years and will continue to do so. Still no replacement for most things though.

When looking at just sculpting cloth folds, this is a much faster workflow than Marvelous Designer. Doesn’t mean it aims to replace MD, this is just a really smart tool in my opinion. I hope others follow suite as I don’t use Blender much other than to test some of the great features it gets every so often.

what kind of intrigues me is the idea of using this beyond cloth sculpting.
i image creating skinfolds with this system might be very cool tbh.
wonder if gravity might come into play aswell…

Great tool, this was amazing and blender’s development speed is awesome!
I wonder why bother to comment if someone is marvelous user – its different tool for different purpose. But i see that if blender does these innovations and make their own tool creation tools blender will be even more attractive alternative for marvelous. And all those function nodes, mantaflow etc. Its getting better and better, happy i am. Other software users may use what ever they want or they can try blender – its free. But these are just tools, different tools with different strenghts. With this development progress i can see that Blender is getting more and more: media creation tool for any purpose i love that idea and software name descript it quite well – blend anything, video, 3d, audio, etc. C4D was my favourite and modo in old days but these days blender has my love <3 great tool, great community, great progress, future looks good.
