We Suck Less has released Reactor, a new open source package manager for Fusion and Fusion Studio. The free application is designed to streamline the installation, distribution and management of 3rd party content for Fusion through the use of packages that are synced with an online Git repository. It allows users to install 3rd part scripts, plugins and other content with just a few clicks, and because it it synced to an online repository, it's easy to keep plugins up to date. (more...)

After the recent large price drop of Fusion Studio, Statixvfx decided to release a pack of defaults that will make Fusion behave more like Nuke. This means that you'll get hotkeys that are bound to their Nuke equivalent as well as similar screen layouts and nodes. If you have ideas to make Fusion behave even more like Nuke you are encouraged to contribute. Get the files on Github.

Blackmagic Design has announced the release of Fusion 9 Studio. New features include VR tools, new keying technology, planar tracking, camera tracking, multi user collaboration tools and more. Fusion Studio's price has been cut from $995 to $299 and a free version with many of the features of the Studio edition remains available. Additionally, Fusion Studio now offers unlimited network rendering. According to Blackmagic, its licensing system means that there are no ongoing rental, cloud licensing, maintenance fees or additional render node costs. Artists own the software they pay for. The Domemaster Fusion Macros developed by Andrew Hazelden have evolved into KartaVR. The software works with Fusion Studio and provides tools for VR, panoramic 360° video stitching and image editing workflows. New functionality in v3 includes: stitch 360° video in Fusion with a PTGui Project File, Oculus Rift support, ability to easily add titles and logos to VR content and easily animate their size and position. RE:Vision Effects announced that its set of tools for projection conversion and lens distortion correction is now available for the Foundry's Nuke and Blackmagic Design's Fusion Studio. RE:Lens straightens curved video captured with wide-angle and fisheye lenses, and includes spherical stabilization to address problems with shaky camera motion. The software is compatible with Nuke 7.0 and up and Fusion Studio 8.0 and up (as well as AE and Premiere), and is priced at $189.95 for a node-locked license and $284.93 for a floating one. Cryptomatte is a tool created at Psyop by Jonah Friedman and Andy Jones. It creates ID mattes automatically with support for motion blur, transparency and depth of field using organizational information already available at render time. In addition to the decoder available for The Foundry's Nuke, an implementation is now available for Blackmagic Design's Fusion, courtesy of the artists from Grid VFX. The Fusion integration (currently in alpha) has been written as a Fuse and Lua scripts, which means it should work with the free version of the compositing software.
