The successor to the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC standard is being developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and the Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG). It’s expected to be available in early 2013 and provide significantly improved video compression and support for up to 7680×4320 resolution. More at Fudzilla and Wikipedia.
