Knald is an interesting looking new GPU based texture creation tool that promises to create normal, derivative, displacement/height, ambient occlusion, concavity and convexity maps in around 5 seconds using a typical Nvidia 560Ti level card. The full list of features includes:
- Uses OpenCL to maximise hardware support
- 8 16 and 32 bit depth file I/O support
- Image based AO, concavity and convexity maps, all adjustable in real-time.
- Low poly ambient occlusion promising an increase in speed of over 750% when compared to other GPU based solutions
- Preview using real-time scalable tesselation
- Physically based specular and gloss preview
- Create normal maps from a photo or heightmap source. Adjust the resulting maps non-destructively and in real-time
- Easy control over lighting, mesh rotation and UV tiling and offset
Knald is currently in open beta, to find out more including a 40 minute tutorial, visit KnaldTech.com.
