The Foundry, makers of renowned Nuke compositing software, have announced the upcoming release of Mari, a 3D texture painting application originally developed at Weta Digital. Mari is highly scalable, coping easily with extreme levels of detail (literally tens of thousands of textures). Features include: paint textures on an animated model, ability to handle very large 3D data sets, support for large textures up to 32K x 32K pixels, configurable UI, floating point support, open and extensible approach to UI, geometry, cameras and shading, etc. Mari will be released for Linux with a Windows version to follow soon, price is expected to be around 500 euros.
