Ken Pimentel from Autodesk has posted the results of the recent survey asking Max users about their platform of preference in case Max could be ported to other OSs in the future. His words at a recent post are quite surprising: “If 3ds Max were to ever even consider a port, key internal technology would have to make the leap ahead of us. That just happened…” The link to the recent survey should be shared with Linux users.
Hmmm… but why then it is still necessary to re-compile plugins every 2 max versions? I think a more independent plug-in architecture could be another very helpful step! Lost so many good plug-ins on the way … Anyone remember InstantUV, this made quick texturing so simple?
A very good question. Perhaps reducing dependency on Microsoft technologies is a step in that direction…
Just say NO!
There’s a good reason why I left apple and came over to the dark side. Autodesk PLEASE don’t port to multiple OS’s. This will only take time away from fixing and innovating the PC version. It’s kind of like having a kid to fix the marriage.
What about spending that time on updating: Layers, UV unwrap, splines, file management, time line and so on. I LOVE MAX but, I’d much rather see you go through Max from head to toe cleaning and updating the existing tools.
By the way, who wrote that survey? If you had a $100 dollars and a train was moving at 30mph…?????
