Maxon committed to offering perpetual licenses, will be exploring rental licensing as an option

Maxon Computer, the company that develops Cinema 4D, announced that it is committed to offering perpetual licenses of its software with the security of ownership it provides to artists, and that it will also be exploring ways to offer Cinema 4D through rental licensing as an option.

Also of note, Maxon will be introducing a global licensing program for customers that have established subsidiaries around the globe and have expressed a desire to manage their licenses from a central location.

More on Maxon’s website.

It will be interesting on how Maxon pitch their rental pricing compared to autodesk and Adobe’s rental schemes.

Good. Let’s hope Maxom leads with example. Others can f*** themselves.

This really is the way it should be done IMO. Best for consumers which will lead to a loyal user base. The large companies think they are too big to go down by alienating their consumers with rental only and perhaps they will do fine, especially with companies/studios that have established pipelines as changing software means a lot of cumbersome changes like re-training your artists (or finding new ones and let go your old artists). I applaud Cinema4D for this move and long-term I think it will work out better for them. No matter how big you are, you can still fall.

I can buy a BMW and own it. I can also buy a Mercedes and own it too. Must be the quality of fine German engineering perhaps?
