Autodesk has announced the release of Maya 2023.1. New features include:
- Updates to the Boolean stack give modellers more control when adding and editing new input objects. Additionally, a new Interactive Update option has been exposed, providing a quick way to mitigate slow boolean performance while working with dense scenes.
- A new HumanIK character template called FullRigControlsConfig.xml has been added to the two existing rig templates. This new template provides a comprehensive list of all spine, neck, hand and foot joints, extra shoulder joints, as well as additional finger and toe bones.
- Maya’s USD plugin has been updated with important bug fixes, performance improvements and stability updates.
- A new FBX import option, Smoothing Groups, has been created to address problems where exported FBX polygon objects with smooth edge normals would reimport with incorrect normal information.
- A new Traversal Depth option has been added to the Node Editor Preferences to let you specify a depth value for moving through the graph. This is particularly helpful when working with complex structures like rigs.
- The Paint Vertex Color Tool has been updated to allow users to restrict painting to individual RGB channels to prevent the accidental painting of other channels and display specific colour channels as a greyscale using the new Display RGB colour set as a greyscale option.
- New options in the Polygons Preferences and Custom Polygon Display Options allow users to display RGB channels individually, providing better visual feedback about specific channel colour values. Other new options allow user to display channels as a greyscale on the polygon object surface.
- The substance plugin has been updated with a new scripting command substanceNodeGetGraphMetadata as well as various bugfixes.
- Includes MtoA for Arnold 7.1.1.1 which introduces increased stability, USD and Hydra Render Delegate enhancements and integrations, performance optimizations, and bug fixes.
