Mitsuba is a free research-oriented rendering system developed by Wenzel Jakob that places a strong emphasis on experimental rendering techniques, such as path-based formulations of Metropolis Light Transport and volumetric modeling approaches. It offers the chance to experiment with techniques that haven’t yet found their way into mainstream renderers. Importing from major 3D software is supported through the COLLADA file format. In the future, additional integration is planned, such as a plugin for 3DS Max. More on Mitsuba’s website.
