NIM 3.0 announced
Update: Nim 3.0 is now officially released with several new features since last reported including rule-based notifications for emails, unique user groups, updated Gantt view, the ability to attach a studio’s accounting profit centre for higher-level dashboard reporting and more.
Nim Labs has announced the latest version of its studio management software. NIM promises to put production tracking, scheduling and client review tools in one place including the ability to track finances, create bids, fill time cards and more. The software’s aim is to provide a complete studio system that can be used by managers and artists.
NIM 3.0 sees a rewritten creative review tool to simplify marking up videos PDFs and still frames. In addition, the review capabilities of the software are now available in more areas of the software and review bins, which allow the user to create groups of content using smart filters, gain a new theatre mode for large screen viewing of content with options to zoom, fit, fill and pan during playback.
NIM connects with Maya, Houdini, 3DS Max, Nuke and Flame and soon, in version 3, Adobe Premiere. Using the new integration the entire creative review process can be done from directly within Premiere. Connections are already available for Photoshop and After Effects.
NIM’s bidding system gets new organisational tools to enable producers to define the different sections of their bid using groups. Through item linking, users will be able to modify multiple line items simultaneously, with the ability to attach further information like images, notes and descriptions when the need arises.
New AD/LDAP support enables companies with existing directory systems to integrate NIM with their users. “By accessing NIM 3.0’s on-board security controls, organizations can manage permissions and security groups from Active Directory (AD) or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). Support for multiple domains will add even more authentication controls across networks.”
NIM 3.0 will be demonstrated during SIGGRAPH 2018 but is due out for general release this autumn. User licenses cost $360 per year or $40 monthly. A free trial of NIM 2.8 is also available.
(Off topic: NIM’s logo is enjoyably similar to a certain industrial rock band)
