Photoshop adds a new Adjustment Brush tool
Adobe has announced the May 2024 release of Photoshop.
The main new addition in this release is the Adjustment Brush Tool that allows for localized adjustments to specific areas of an image, merging the flexibility of adjustment layers with the control of a brush tool. This combination simplifies the process of making local adjustments by integrating selecting, masking, and applying adjustments into one step. The adjustments made with this tool are non-destructive, creating a new adjustment layer with a layer mask. Default values are applied initially, which can be edited in the Properties panel.
Another improvement is the automatic setting of default font size, a new preference enabled by default. This feature calculates and sets the default font size based on the document’s resolution and zoom factor when a new document is created or an existing document without type layers is opened. If this preference is disabled, the default font size for new type layers will revert to 12 pt.

What’s wrong with painting masks on adjustment layers, for a non-destructive workflow?
Why is this better?
As far as I can gather, it’s the exact same thing, just made into a separate button? Another ease-of-use attempt for newcomers if I had to guess.
