Ivan Kolev, of Dimension DESIGN Animation Group announced that :
“The first public beta build of the long awaited Shag: Hair 1.01 update is ready. You can download it for free at
http://home.abac.com/ddag/hair/ShagHair1.01.00R3.zip
or (if you are still using R2.x)
http://home.abac.com/ddag/hair/ShagHair1.01.00R2.zip
Of course, you need to have the original Shag: Hair authorized to run the update.
See the help file included in the zip for installation notes and complete list of changes.
A BIG WARNING to all: this is a BETA version, it has been tested only by several users and is expected to have bugs. Since scenes saved with it are NOT backward compatible with Shag 1.0, it is strongly recommended to avoid using it for serious work yet.”
Here’s a list of the more important changes:
– Hair is a deformable object and generic deformation modifiers like Bend, Skin, Noise, etc. can be applied to it.
– Totally reworked dynamic collisions.
– Multi-threaded dynamic calculations and key reduction.
– Multi-threaded rendering.
– Hair-enabled lights were made obsolete by the new Shadow Compositor and Hair Shadow plugins (R3 only).
– The Hair Standard material was made obsolete by the new Hair Shader plugin (which now works for geometry hair too) (R3 only).
– You can render hair with Renderman, using the latest version of MaxMan, the Renderman export plugin by Animal Logic.
– Hair can be converted to an Editable Spline object. – The Lagrange and Penalty forces dynamic methods were removed.
– An option to export and import the pre-calculated dynamics into a separate file.
– Curliness is shown in the viewports.
– An option to fix the per area density to the reference frame.
– A render effect for G-buffer output, supporting several new G-buffer channels, most importantly the Velocity channel, allowing for image motion blur of Shag:Rendered hair, with the help of VeloMBlur (R3 only).
– Rendering and dynamic calculation optimizations.
– Bug fixes.
