Until recently the Source SDK was only available to owners of a Source-powered game, the recent free release of Team Fortress 2 meant that the Source SDK unofficially became freely available too. Valve has now confirmed a formal rollout of a free SDK in the near future. Speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun TF2 developer Robin Walker explained:
“We are in the process of getting it all done. It’s a bit messy because we have multiple versions of the SDK, and there’s some dependencies we need to shake out. But yes, the gist of it is that we’re just going to go ahead and make the Source SDK freely available.”
The release of the Source SDK follows hot on the heals of the recently released CryEngine 3 SDK and the continuing success of Unreal Development Kit. More at Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
