SpeedTree 6.0 for Games has been released promising significant improvements to real-time rendering efficiency and modelling control, as well as new platform support. SpeedTree for Games now supports Sony’s upcoming Vita handheld, DirectX 11, and Mac OSX in addition to a host of other features, including:
– New Shader LOD improvements, increasing rendering speeds by 40% or more.
– A new built-in grass/undergrowth system.
– Improved draw cell management.
– New forest paging system.
– New LOD- enabled wind system.
The SpeedTree modeller now runs on Mac OSX and Linux and has added branch intersection modelling, self colliding branches, discrete mesh LODs for leaves and scene objects, and a “simple” editing mode for new users to its list of features. Read the full PR or find out more at SpeedTree.
