Planeside Software has released an update to Terragen, it’s natural environment modelling, rendering and animation tool. Version 4.3 includes support for OpenVDB clouds, reduced render times for Easy Clouds, a deferred Shading render mode, new adaptive anti-aliasing options, a new Sample Rate render element, the ability to path trace surfaces, plus many more fixes and improvements. Find out more in the online release notes.
It supports very primitive export for VDB clouds and on Linux whithin a command line. There is no import support for OPENVDB.
Import wasn’t the focus as far as I know, vast majority of users were asking for VDB export capabilities. But I agree, it should go both ways.
And yes, VDB export only on Linux for now. Windows and Mac are coming but apparently they wanted to get it out the door so people have some way to export VDBs if they really need it.
One neat addition is path tracing (experimental stage though), finally overcoming the problem of dull shadow areas and cheats like screen space occlusion. Obviously, this will render longer but I’m really grateful Matt started to work on more advanced rendering tech. Looking forward to more!
