Unity cancels runtime fee and reverts to subscription model for game developers
Unity has canceled the runtime fee for its game development software. This decision comes after widespread dissent about the changes and follows extensive discussions with the community, customers, and partners. Unity will now revert to its seat-based subscription model, which will apply to all gaming customers, including those adopting Unity 6, set to launch later this year.
Unity Personal, which remains free, will see its revenue and funding ceiling increased to $200,000 USD, and the “Made with Unity” splash screen will become optional for Unity 6 users. Unity Pro will see an 8% price increase, bringing the annual subscription cost to $2,200 per seat, and will be required for customers with over $200,000 USD in annual revenue. Unity Enterprise customers, whose annual revenue exceeds $25 million USD, will face a 25% price increase and may have minimum subscription requirements.
Unity aims to move toward a more traditional annual pricing review cycle while maintaining its commitment to transparency and customer trust. For further details, visit Unity’s website.
