German artist Timur ‘Taron’ Baysal is developing a painting software based on fluid dynamics. The free application is in early state of development, but it’s already available for download. It runs on Windows and requires a a graphics board no older than 3 years. Watch some sample videos (video 1–video 2–video 3) and download it from Taron’s website.

Great idea! A pity that it is only for windows. I think a lot more people would use it if it were for Mac too.

It’s free and written by one person, I think it’s amazing that it exists at all. I think people have gotten so used to getting things for free on the internet. Reminds me of getting blasted on a Naiad group because I didn’t want to make a tutorial (even though I’ve done tonnes in the past). Really bizarre to make demands. Not saying you are making demands, but I’m just saying that even though it “just” exists on Windows it’s fantastic that it exists at all — for free on top of that.

Oh one more comment, when I was still a junior I was really impressed by Taron’s work. He’s so talented, and to see him program a software like this is pretty awesome. I know the fluids are based on papers but even so, it’s a daunting task.

Looks fantastic – I loved working with Painter but got frustrated that they never seemed to do much with the liquid/watercolour simulation.
