Industry News – Discreet Announces Max Exporter for Macromedia Director 8.5

Support for 3ds max will ship with Macromedia Director 8.5 Shockwave Studio. 3ds max 4 will offer its users tight integration with Director 8.5. The Max exporter includes support for character animation from character studio, dynamic physics from reactor, and MultiRes -- the same multi-resolution mesh technology from Intel used in Shockwave 3D that will give Web artists the ability to preview streaming and level of detail results directly within 3ds max.

And if Director supports it then that means a player is on its way, right? Of course! You can download a public beta of the Macromedia Shockwave Player 3D from Macromedia's site and watch afterwards some 3D demos. Looks like the Web 3D dam is finally breaking open. (more...)
