After numerous requests from artists, Serif has finally announced the open beta testing of Affinity Photo for Windows, its image editing application, which is now freely available for download. Affinity Photo supports end-to-end CMYK, LAB colour, 16-bits per channel editing, ICC color profiling and Photoshop PSD file format / 64-bit plugins. Version 1.5 brings HDR merge capabilities, focus stacking, macros, batch processing, tone mapping, 360 degree image editing, etc.
Taking advantage of the opportunity provided by Adobe, which has adopted a rental-only model that left many of its customers dissatisfied, Serif will be making available Affinity Photo for Windows through permanent licensing at an affordable price ($49.99).
Affinity Photo was chosen as Apple’s App of the Year 2015, and voted Best Imaging Software 2016 by the Technical Image Press Association. It has also received many 5-star reviews from professional photographers, editors, artists and retouchers from around the world.
Serif is asking artists to help with the development process by reporting issues you may find with the current beta on the company’s forum. New builds are expected to come out every week. More information on the Affinity Photo for Windows page, Affinity Photo features page and beta forum.

“Version 1.5 brings … 360 degree image editing …”
That sounds super interesting. Also, permanent license will cost me less than CC for one month.
It is another strong nail to Adobe`s coffin. Long live Affinity!
Yes!
These guys are doing a tremendous job. Affinity Designer it’s an amazing vector application, I’m sure Paint will be great as well.
Hi,
I would love to pay way more for this software as long as it’s fast.
Photoshop CC is really really slow with 16bit 8 to 15gb compositing files.
Speed, color management(comping correctly render layers in float) and plugin compability is for me the most important.
Cheers
Testing it right now. Boy, if it’s difficult to switch to something else that’s not PS!
With Affinity Designer it’s been a breeze, maybe because I never loved AI.
But I think PS it’s really the only software that got stuck in the minds and habits of many users.
I can switch to a node based app more easily, but with something similar to PS, but not PS, it’s a different story.
Anyway, it looks very promising.
For a total of 100 bucks, I can easiliy buy both Affinity apps.
Looks very strange workflow logic. Nad strange UI.
I really like it and it looks promising ! Adobe, Autodesk and all the other software developers are so huge, so proud, so expensive, it is so good to have producers like you. A software should be balanced in it’sprice in relation to the investment for manpower to code and to develop such a software package. Further it is always good to have competition on the market.
As user I mean, a software should be worth the price but not pump up a company which just sit’s on the throne like the companies mentioned. Sure I pay for a software when I really use it. But the prices should be balanced in relation to its use and benefit for me !
Photoshop won’t disappear, it became a household name for all photo manipulation despite they may be done with other photo editors. Kinda classics.
This one https://macphun.com/luminar is also preparing a Windows version. Apple fans are no longer the main source of income?)
Well… in my studio it already disappeared hehe
