A free add-on allows you to use Firefox for browsing .CHM help files.
The CHM Reader add-on for Firefox allows you to open files in compiled help format (.CHM), such as the MAXScript online help in Max. What this gives you is a great alternative to the default hh.exe reader because you can use all the usual Firefox tools such as search-while-you-type, bookmarks etc. as well as all your other add-ons (gestures, custom styles, notes, shortcuts to translation or search engines etc.)
What? Still using IE? Please do yourself a favor and give FireFox a try: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
