Boris FX has announced the acquisition of SilhouetteFX and Digital Film Tools. Silhouette offers advanced rotoscoping and non-destructive paint tools in a standalone GPU-accelerated node-based compositing application, while Digital Film Tools provides a suite of over 100 filters and 1000s of presets in a standalone application as well as plugins for After Effects, Photoshop and Lightroom. Find out more on the Boris FX website.
I started to worry when/if borisfx will go rental only 🙁
I hope never – rental and perpetual should be option. But Maxon is definitely going for rental only, removed MSA (no upgrades, just fully overpriced perpetual licenses and r21 was so bad release – it sound more like update than upgrade – some point update 20.1)
SilhouetteFX is good software – they (borisfx) could make it after effects and nuke competitor but most probably they are just trying to get large software portfolio so they can sell their business to adobe with maximum profit. Open Source looks to be only safe area where users don’t need to worry about pricing or fast license changes. Good there is still Affinity photo, designer and publisher (and their studio link which is awesome) and BlackMagicDesign and their DaVinci Resolve (with fusion) <3 so there is still hope for affordable and good video and vfx compositing software. And Blender which is gettin more attractive everyday.
