Thanks for the video, I actually enjoyed the side notes (1550/pi, manipulator wire to shader) more than the main topic, as this kind of matcap is really just environment mapping (Jim Blinn 1976). The technique would be much better if we could use two matcap spheres (a shiny and a dull one) and blend between them based on the surface curvature.
