(Updated) The Foundry has replied to users’ questions stating clearly that “there is no plan to move MODO to a subs only model”. More on The Foundry’s forum.
The Foundry has released an update to its Colorway application which brings an improved iterative design workflow. The software is now being offered through rental-only licensing, which has prompted The Foundry software users to raise their concerns on the company’s official forum and ask for clarification about the company’s licensing plans for the future.
One such message states: “As an artist who REFUSES to buy into subscription based software, I would like to know if it is your intention to move all of your software to this plan”.
It should be noted that when we asked The Foundry in October 2014 about their plans for future licensing policies, the official reply we received from the company was the following one: “Actually, The Foundry already offers rentals/subscription on some products, since way back, and we’ll continue doing so. But we also plan to keep permanent licenses as a purchase option too.”
Version 2.0v1 of Colorway features LiveSources that further streamline the iterative process by allowing to separate the various elements that compose a layout (3D models, 2D images, vector artwork or color palette), dynamic text, easy palette creation and management, and Colorway Assets that allow you to change the colors, textures and lighting on your Modo or Cinema 4D models without the need to re-render.
More information on Colorway and users’ posts regarding rental-only licensing can be found on The Foundry’s website.
