DaVinci Resolve 15.2 released
Blackmagic design has announced the latest release of DaVinci Resolve. Version 15.2 includes improvements to the UI including better responsiveness by drawing the editing timeline at a higher framerate, and new animations so that clips slide in and out of position, making it easier to see exactly how different edits affect other clips in the timeline. Visual signposting of duplicates allows the user to see when a clip has been used more than once, and clips in the bin now display usage indicators for the current active timeline. White vertical lines highlight the currently marked portion of a clip, while red horizontal lines show which frames are used. The timeline can also be cleaned up by flattening down unused clips, and timecode entry has been improved throughout the application.
In addition, pancake editing is now easier with the introduction of the ability to load timelines or compound into the source viewer and edited into the current timeline in their decomposed state. It is also possible to instantly mark a clip in the source timeline and edit that clip directly into the active program timeline. Other improvements include displaying information of the clip under the playhead in the inspector, on-screen controls and metadata viewer.
Keyboard customization has been completely redesigned with a new visual interface. Included keyboard sets emulate other popular editing applications, making it easier for users to use DaVinci Resolve.
New ResolveFX plugins including a Blanking Fill plugin to automatically fill black letterbox or pillar box areas of the screen with defocused video, a new Beauty plugin to gently and realistically smooth textures and blemishes on skin and other surfaces, plus new tools for colourists.
The Fairlight page includes several refinements plus the new Stereo Fix plugin that incorporates presets for the most common channel mapping operations. A new Multi-band compressor features realtime spectral analysis and four different independently adjustable frequency bands. There are also new VCA groups for ganging channel strips together, making it possible to adjust the gain on multiple tracks simultaneously.
A very capable version of DaVinci Resolve is available free, or £239 if you need multi-user collaboration features, 3D tools, additional Resolve FX and more.
