Maxon committed to offering perpetual licenses, will be exploring rental licensing as an option

Maxon offers Cinema 4D through rental licensing as an option

Keeping their commitment to offering permanent licenses, Maxon announced the availability of short-term licenses for Cinema 4D Studio as a supplement to the existing line-up of perpetual licenses. The new licenses are valid for three or six months and are designed to meet the challenges of production environments. They can also be upgraded to a permanent license at a discounted price.

According to Maxon’s Uwe Bärtels, the company “continues to believe strongly that perpetual licenses offer owners of these licenses a high degree of security and peace of mind. However, we also understand that offering subscription models for software make it easier for both individual users and large companies to quickly adapt their license requirements to their individual production needs.”

Rental licenses for Cinema 4D Studio are available as download only. A three-month license is priced at 500 €/$600 US/385 £ (plus applicable sales tax) and the six-month one at 950 €/$1100 US/730 £ (plus applicable sales tax). These licenses can also be extended for three or six months.

More information on Maxon’s website.

That is exactly how it should be done! Standing ovation for Maxon from me. Shame on Autodesk.

I do not use Cinema 4D, but I like the license model a lot !!!!

A permanent license AND a rental, great and so simple !!!

I wish Autodesk and Adobe would do that and let the customer decide. But those companies are not interested in happy customers at all !

Go Maxon, GO !!!!!!

@Steve

IMHO this is how it should be done, this model aims perpetual licenses to studios and individuals that are permanently working with C4D, while rental licenses are aimed to studios or individuals that are casual users of C4D or that need a higher number of licenses for a limited time, this being something with some leverages regarding a lower initial impact while you can always upgrade to an actual perpetual license with a discount.

I agree that rental prices are overpriced in general, specially Max, Maya and now C4D, but at least they leave you with a choice, good old perpetual license or rental license for a limited time.

You can work permanetly with the first one while you can include the second one for an specific project that needs it as a expense of the specific project.

In the end, I tdon’t like the prices too much, but I do like the model, it’s really far better than Autodesk model for sure.

Cheers.

@juang3d yeh i guess you could work with visualise, broadcast or prime and then rent studio when you need to leverage it’s toolset

still 20% MORE than Maya or Max is rather surprising though for cinema4d studio rental..was not e xpecting that at all..

@Steve I have to agree with you on the pricing of the rental license

Now they need to deliver the results of this new core thing.

It won’t matter if they have both options and all if the software doesn’t improve.

Hopefully we’ll know more until September,which is when Maxon generally releases new versions.qell have Max and Maya 2017 and maybe even Modo v10.1.

Second that. If C4D will really get the new core and speed won’t be the main issue anymore, I can even switch back to it.
As for as Modo, https://cgpress.org/archives/modo-10-announced.html

@Marco:

Yeah, Modo is an interesting tool, too bad there is no news about improved character animation tools, I’m not too familiar with Modo but I think it was way behind maya in this regard.

Anyways, my main bet right now is into blender 🙂

Cheers.

Juang3d,

Blender is my weapon of choice when it comes to modeling. It’s the 3d app where I learnt the basics of modeling, and once one gets used to the interface is really fast.
Cycles is pretty good too. Something I hoped for years was a further development on the particles system.

One of the thing I would really miss from 3ds Max though is the modifier stack, I believe it is still the best on the market at that level of complexity. I guess one can get something better only with Houdini, but than it’s a different type of 3d app.

@Marco

Indeed, that is why we are aiming to a Blenedr+Houdini Indie combo 🙂 Perfect weapon, the only thing left is Alembic, but this is under development here:

https://developer.blender.org/D1783#40326

So if you can, please leave a word here to impulse the project and spread it as you can.

On the other hand, if you are able to build Blender, please make a windows x64 build, I can’t do it 🙂

Cheers.

To be honest those subscription prices (autodesk & maxon) are out of control. I hate the subscription model as much as the next person but at least adobe’s pricing seems pretty fair.

damn, i thought the rental price of maya was expensive. I see Autodesk renting flame for 500 dollar.
